Happy New Year and welcome to our first newsletter of 2025!

This newsletter includes;

Registration has launched

The first face-to-face registration appointments were on Wednesday 8th January and we are enjoying welcoming the new students to campus!

Applicants should complete their online registration while they are waiting for their visa. Once they receive their visa, they should link this to their UKVI account which will allow them to generate a share code, which is needed to access the face-to-face registration bookings.

Creating a UKVI account and share code video guides

Creating a UKVI account and generating share codes are brand new for this cohort of applicants. To help them navigate this new process, we have created two new follow along videos to help them.

Please feel free to share these to any of your applicants who would like to go through the process step-by-step.

New pre-arrival preparation zone

We know there is a lot applicants need to do before they are ready to travel to the UK, so to try to make this as easy as possible for them we have created a Pre-arrival Preparation Zone. All applicants who received a CAS for January 2025 will be emailed a magic link unique to them to access this platform.

This online space pulls together;

• Tips on sorting accommodation
• Catch up on webinars and comms
• Links to key information webpages
• Pre-arrival checklist and tasks to tick off

Fun facts about Herts

Did you know that the Olympic torch travelled through campus, or that almost every Formula 1 racing team has a University of Hertfordshire graduate in their design team, or that Herts has the most powerful bespoke 3D laser radar in Europe?

To mark the start of a new year, each Friday afternoon we will be releasing a fun fact about Herts on our international social media channels to help spread more awareness of the fantastic things our University has been a part of. Stay tuned to learn more!

Show home transformed by Herts Interior Architecture and Design students

Three Interior Architecture and Design students at Herts have won a competition hosted by major housing developer Taylor Wimpey to create bespoke room designs for a show home.

Taylor Wimpey North Thames provided the show home on a new housing development in High Leigh Garden Village in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

The company invited Herts students to demonstrate an understanding of and passion for design by applying the skills learned during their degree. The students provided a design statement, mood board and one render for each room in their chosen concept, transforming the spaces into stunning, functional rooms to attract potential house buyers.

The final three winners of the competition - Chloe Hobbs, Phoenix Ang and Elen Shakhnazaryan, were chosen by judges for their “exceptional attention to detail, innovative ideas and creativity”. Chloe created a playful and inspiring children’s bedroom; Phoenix designed a relaxing and contemporary living room, and Elen developed a cosy and inviting main bedroom.

University of Hertfordshire announces new Dean of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences

The University of Hertfordshire has announced it has appointed Professor Irene Ctori as the Dean of the new School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.

Currently Associate Dean Undergraduate Studies in the School of Health & Psychological Sciences at City St George’s, University of London, Professor Ctori is responsible for the strategic delivery of undergraduate education within the School. She has held several key education leadership roles during her time at City, contributing to curriculum design, approval and the overall student experience at a programme, school and institutional level.

Professor Ctori has also had an extensive career in optometry and is a qualified optometrist and Professor of Optometry, with more than 25 years’ experience in a wide range of clinical optometric practice.

The new School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences brings together the University’s current Schools of Health and Social Work and Life and Medical Sciences, alongside the planned Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme. It launches on 1 March 2025, with Professor Ctori will commencing her new role as Dean of the School from 10 March.
