Dear University Partners

The University of Melbourne would like to extend our appreciation again to the work your team is currently doing to support our future student community joining us in Melbourne for the start of Semester 1, 2025.

We are aware that visa applications for some of our commencing students are delayed and to facilitate their arrival to campus, the University of Melbourne will be allowing a general extension (*course exclusions apply) for our students to be enrolled and arrive by Sunday 16 March 2025, ready to commence classes by Monday 17 March 2025.

This year, we would like to be able to keep track of student late arrivals by course, so if your student is still waiting on their visa application by 24 February 2025, please let us know by completing the student visa enquiry form.

Make sure to include the following information:

§   Subject: Late arrival to Melbourne

§   Enquiry description: Full name, student ID number, course name, and a note that the student visa application outcome is pending.

As always, your students should refer to the Get Started pages and ensure they have already started to set up their student accounts and complete the administrative enrolment.

Whilst the extension is in place, special consideration will not be granted based on late arrival.   

*Excluded courses from this late arrival extension are as follows:

-  Bachelor of Biomedicine (Degree with Honours) note that the 3 year Bachelor of Biomedicine is approved for late arrival

-  Doctor of Medicine

-  Doctor of Physiotherapy

-  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

-  Graduate Certificate in Agricultural Sciences

-  Juris Doctor

-  Master of Applied Psychology

-  Master of Biomedical Science

-  Master of Ecosystem Management and Conservation

-  Master of Geosciences

-  Master of Nursing Science

-  Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology)

-  Master of Public Health

-  Master of Science (Biosciences)

-  Master of Social Work

-  Master of Speech Pathology

The University has been asked by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to share and help ensure students’ arrival into Australia is as smooth as possible, by providing education about what to pack before they travel to Australia.

The Department has developed a studying in Australia flyer and biosecurity poster for inclusion in your pre- departure kit for incoming students (see attached). Additional biosecurity resources you may wish to provide to incoming students through your channels:

Students’ friends and family who send care packages are encouraged to check what is allowed before sending anything to Australia: Bringing or mailing goods to Australia.

Please share with your students and their families before they leave for Australia.
