Our School of Sport and Physical Activity is one of the leading providers of sport education in the UK and is known for its innovative curriculum and global network.

Our extensive range of courses, many of which are accredited by professional bodies, are taught by renowned experts who work at the highest level with athletes, sports organisations and health authorities. 

Our students benefit from access to state-of-the-art equipment and sport facilities including the English Institute of Sport, an elite training facility used by many of the UK’s elite athletes and teams.  We also offer a vibrant sporting community with a diverse range of clubs and performance teams.

Through our network, our students have worked with international sport organisations including Adidas, Formula 1 and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and undertaken applied sport research with governing bodies such as FIFA, British Swimming, and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Find out more about our new course - MSc Zero Carbon Buildings and Technologies
 
Our brand new MSc Zero Carbon Buildings and Technologies course provides industry links to equip students with the skills and vision to tackle the climate emergency. With decarbonisation strategies and resilient design practises, students will use data to explore complex construction challenges in a variety of contexts.

The course brings together environmental and innovative technologies to achieve practical and sustainable goals in design, construction and operational practices. Students will gain a strong theoretical and technical foundation in environmental architecture through experimentation and modelling, using data technologies to help meet the needs of practice. 

Students will develop their knowledge, understanding and skills by applying them to environmental, digital and technically driven architectural design projects. We also offer a work experience route.

Our new MSc Project Management course gives students the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s fast-changing global business world. Whether aiming to lead global teams, drive innovation, or manage large-scale projects, the MSc Project Management course prepares students to reach their goals.

Students will explore key topics like cross-cultural management, sustainability, and ethical decision-making, equipping you to tackle modern challenges with confidence and creativity.

The course provides a detailed understanding of core areas such as the project life-cycle, governance, procurement, risk management, and project evaluation. Students will also gain skills in HR management, leadership, stakeholder management, communication, contract negotiation, financial control, data analytics, and quality assurance - tools to make a real impact.

Postgraduate research opportunities - PhD Architecture

Our PhD Architecture programme has an outstanding student satisfaction rating. On this research programme, students will:

Students will develop and implement a research programme with experienced researchers and practitioners in architecture. Their interests include spatial practice, environmental design, sustainable architecture, design technologies, communities, eco-social design, digital fabrications, digital construction, urbanisms, participatory architecture, public space and culture, urban landscape, smart cities, retrofitting and decarbonisation.

Our architecture courses are taught by the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute, a CIAT Centre of Excellence for Architectural Technology with more CIAT Student Awards than any other university.
