Want to find out what’s new at UniSA? Here’s a summary of what’s happening on campus, our recent achievements and the latest degree information. In this issue:

Updated Genuine Student Requirement (GSR) Guide
In accordance with the latest information provided to UniSA by the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the University would like to emphasise to agents the following guidelines must be met to ensure prospective students are able to meet the Genuine Student Requirement (GSR):
Agents to screen prospective students by interviewing them against the GSR criteria and have all supporting documents e.g. work experience letters, financial documents verified PRIOR TO APPLYING to UniSA. Insufficient evidence of finance and/or Genuine Student claims are the most common reasons for visa refusals, so please ensure these are addressed carefully.
UniSA may screen certain prospective students prior to receiving their offer, which may include a video interview. If the individual is found not to be a genuine student, they will be refused at this stage.
GSR questionnaire completed by prospective student ONLY.
Ensure prospective students are prepared for any incoming calls or interview with the Department of Home Affairs after submitting their visa application.
Do NOT provide prospective student or anyone else with a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Please note, if an applicant is GSR refused, they are ineligible to study at UniSA, which includes package programs through pathway providers SAIBT, Eynesbury and TAFE, for a period of 2 years from the date of decision.

Aviation students all set for take off
UniSA students, Jay Weng from Taiwan and Leo Cheng from Hong Kong, recently achieved a milestone in their aviation journeys, having earned their Commercial Pilot Licences (CPL) and golden wings badges this month.

Celebrating their accomplishments alongside their peers, family and UniSA staff at Parafield Airport in Adelaide’s north, UniSA STEM Program Director Associate Professor Paul Lee took the opportunity to remind students to reflect on their hard work and bright futures ahead.

Jay, 22, who will complete his Graduate Diploma of Aviation this year, says being awarded his CPL, was a “big relief”.

“Balancing university and flight training was stressful, but I’ve finally done it and I’m really happy,” he says.

Jay hopes to one day fly with a major Taiwanese airline.
Empowering the next generation of emerging leaders
It was a bittersweet farewell for our graduating UniSA Australia Awards and sponsored students, who celebrated their achievement with a ceremony attended by UniSA Pro Vice Chancellor: International, Gabrielle Rolan. While their time in Adelaide has ended, these students have gained a world-class education and an experience of a lifetime, empowering them to create positive change.

This graduating cohort saw UniSA’s first student sponsored by the Solomon Islands government. The Australia Awards, funded by the Australian Government, provides students from developing nations an Australian education, helping them advance their careers and contribute to their home country’s economic priorities. Since 2007, UniSA has accepted students from 40 countries, including those from the Asia-Pacific and African regions.
