Kia ora, greetings from Aotearoa New Zealand |
|
Welcome to our March 2025 eUpdate for our valued partners across the globe.

|
We'd like to remind our education partners that the fees provided on our offer letters are an estimate only and are calculated based on a selection of papers typically taken in the qualification chosen. If students chose to study a paper outside their chosen discipline, this impacts on their tuition fees.
For students who commence in (July) B or (November) C trimester of each year, the papers that they take in the following year will be charged at the paper fee for that year, not the year they enrolled in. This is the same for many of the other NZ universities.
We appreciate the difficulties that this creates for students and are working hard to find a solution in our offer letters that will provide students with greater clarity on what their tuition fee will be when they study across two years.
Going forward, you will start to see some changes to our offer letters including different letters for PG students studying in 120-point vs 180-point masters. We will be implementing these changes from C trimester 2025 onwards.
We would greatly appreciate your assistance in making this clear to students who are planning to enrol in B2025 and welcome any suggestions you might have to help us with these changes. Please send your comments through to your Waikato contact person. |

Bachelor of Climate Change |
|
Climate change is the most critical environmental issue facing humanity and the planet. It is important for us to have graduates who can lead future climate change solutions in all sectors of society.
The degree will allow students to develop a comprehensive understanding of climate change including its scientific, social, cultural and economic dimensions and become an expert in one of a wide range of subjects needed to develop climate change strategies and solutions.
The degree culminates with a multidisciplinary group project, where students will work with an external organisation to develop an effective low-carbon strategy. Students will graduate with skills and experiences that are in-demand, as we work towards a target of net zero emissions in Aotearoa by 2050. |

University of Waikato improves sustainability ranking |
|
The University of Waikato is one of the world's top performers in the 2025 QS Sustainability Rankings, a recognition of its efforts to tackle some of the world's most pressing issues.
Waikato's ranking of 112= out of 1,744 participating institutions sees it move into New Zealand's top four. Its score is 85.4 out of 100, an improvement on last year's 81.9. The rankings highlight which universities are leading the way in social, economic, and environmental sustainability, drawing on the framework provided by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
QS bases its ranking on performance in three areas: Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance. The rankings placed the University of Waikato 44th equal globally for Environmental Impact and, within this category, 14th globally and 1st in Oceania for Environmental Sustainability. This marker assesses an institution’s operations and the impact its alumni make in environmental sustainability in the private and commercial sector.
The University has also recently become a signatory of the Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE) Accord, which represents the international education sector’s commitment to align with global agreements. This will see the University exchange knowledge and resources with other signatories to strengthen the sector’s transition to more climate-conscious operations.
The University is currently ranked 235th in the world in the 2025 QS World University Ranking and 1st in New Zealand for research (measured by citations per faculty member). It is also ranked within the top 200 institutions in the world in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking. |

Reminder to submit visas early |
|
We would like to remind our recruitment partners to submit student visa applications at least three months in advance of travel, if possible, to provide plenty of time for Immigration New Zealand to make a decision and for students to make plans to travel to New Zealand.
The current processing times for student visas is 2-4 weeks and INZ have advised us that they are on top of their current workload. |

The 2025 programme offers 14 scholarships, worth NZ$15,000 each, for students enrolling at one of New Zealand's eight universities. The University of Waikato offers 3 out of 14 scholarships in the framework of this scheme. The applicants are required to have the formal offer of place by the University of Waikato prior to applying for the scholarship. The applications are expected to open in May 2025 for the February 2026 intake. |

As the University's focus on sustainability increases, we are raising awareness of the PDF version of our prospectus. We have reduced the size of our printed prospectus by two thirds and have consolidated the qualification information into a handy table format. Our website continues to be the best resource for detailed information on our qualifications. You can download copies of all our collateral from the Prospectus page on our website.
We have also launched a digital prospectus which is interactive with links to videos, qualifications and other relevant information such as accommodation and scholarships. We encourage you to scan the QR code to download a digital version. Please speak to your regional lead or manager if you would like them to create a customised version for your market.
Please feel free to share the PDF and digital versions with your students. |
